When laser eye surgery became popular a few years ago, the media bombarded us with a lot of information about it's benefit's and cutting edge technology. They preached visually and verbally, about the precision of this type of eye surgery, the speed of the procedure (about 20 minutes), and the quick recovery time.

This was all well and good. And so began the journey for a lot of us who desired to be free of our contacts and prescription eye glasses. What the media didn't tell us was, how much does laser eye surgery cost?

I was faced with this same dilema a few months back when a friend asked me to find him a way to payless for his laser surgery. He hated wearing glasses and found contacts irritating. I was thus faced with the prospect of finding him affordable laser eye treatment, a pat on the back, and a few pints of beer at the local pub; or, him having ah accident on the way to the local pub.

I am happy to say that I did eventually get the pat on the back and the beer, which led me to writing this hub so that everyone in the same shoe (or those who know someone in that shoe), can share this great alternative ways to lower the cost of your laser eye treatment. You will be paying me no consultation fee and I have no ebook to sell, and no affiliate links to advertise (for now anyway :)). So get out your notepad, pen or pencil, pc, and be prepared to research further to get the best laser surgery that your money can buy. And no, this is not to help you get interest free credit for your eye surgery, even though that is an option, it doesn't save you money.

FOR YOUR EYES ONLY

If you have decided to dump your glasses and contacts to permanently fix your sight, there exists a lots money saving ways to do so. Be prepared to do the research through, calling, visits, consultations, and combing the internet. Here are a few great starting points to consider.

Look for offers on eBay

Eye clinics and companies (like Optimax eye surgery) most times sell what they call leftover capacity. This simply means utilising laser eye appointments that other patients failed to meet, this often comes at a discounted price on eBay. For example, going for more than just the basic optimax Lasik eye surgery can possibly to get you price cuts of up to £500. This dependent on the type of laser eye surgery you will be needing to correct your eyesight. You will have to keep vigil on eBay constantly because you are not the only one looking for offers like this. It is also a good idea to phone up other laser eye clinics to find out if they similar offers for last minute cancellations. Be prepared to be called on short notice to be able to take advantage of this.

Get it at quarter price with vouchers

It's possible to pay for some or all of your laser eye surgery with vouchers. AS an example, in the United Kingdom, supermarkets like TESCO give clubcard vouchers for the stuff that you buy from them. So as you build up your clubcard points you stand the chance of benefiting from a deals scheme to get laser eye examination and treatment for a quarter of it's original price from Optimax the laser eye 'biggies'. What this means is that, every £10 in-store voucher is worth £40 of laser eye surgery.

So if you have enough vouchers you could have an £800 laser eye treatment with £200 worth of vouchers. It also means that, if you don’t have the proper amount of vouchers, you can use them to make part payment. Additionally, being a Tesco clubcard member affords you an insight into loopholes which you can find included in the clubs weekly e-mail which will help you build them up more quickly. Even now, there TESCO is offering double clubcard points for every purchase, so you can even get this eye treatment for less than a quarter price! so check to see if your local supermarket, gym, spa gives out such offers or are in similar deals with laser eye clinics in your area.

Sign up to the laser eye surgery sites

And there are many, Optical Express, Optimax and Ultralase are big examples of laser eye treatment sites. The competition is huge and fierce. Take advantage by signing up with a few and they will (soon enough), email you with special offers and at times the longer you leave it the better the deal you get offered affordable laser eye surgery.

Attend open days

Laser eye companies will always have special deals to tempt you into signing up on the very day that you attend, but make sure you've carried out a price search, so that you know what a good deal is a nd what is not.

Cashback For Laser Eye Surgery?

Cashback sites pay you for booking your laser eye treatment through them. For example, booking an Ultralase eye treatment via a cashback site will get you back some cash once the eye treatment is done. Look for the Cashback Sites Maximiser to check what could be available. Just set up a free cashback account with sites such as Topcashback, Quidco or Cashbackkings (look for cashback sites in your area), log-in and then click on the laser eye product you’re interested in. When you make a transaction such as buying something or signing up to a new credit or insurance policy, it’s recorded and you’re paid cash for doing so. Get more details are in the Cashback Sites guide.

Receive a job-related discounts

Some big laser eye clinics like Optimax offers a 20-25% discount for companies and associations that become members of what they call their, Privilege Discount Scheme (PDS) which offers not to charge for consultation. Even so, make sure you compare its prices with other companies before you commit, even with the discounts, there might be cheaper competition out there. And let's say that the company you work for isn’t signed up, then make suggestion that they join (or tell someone who can). Often times membership is free and costs are transparent.

So do you still think that laser eye surgery is still unaffordable? This list however, has'nt been fully exhausted the possibilites of affordable laser eye operations, if there any others, I will make the necessary additions to this hub. Well that's it (for now), I hope this helps you to save money on your laser eye surgery costs. Just don't go rushing into it.

Update: Since publishing this hub, there have been new developments in laser eye surgery. It is a method called the blade free Z lasik laser eye treatment procedure, which uses new improved lasers. As it is blade free, the new laser eye treatment is safer, faster, much more accurate than previous laser eye surgery techniques, and as usual, it is painless.

As technology continues to improve I'm sure that there will be more to write about.

To kill any fears or phobias that you might have, you will have to focus on the benefits of this procedure. The thought of perfect eye sight is a good enough incentive, isn't it?
